Detailed practical outcomes
Skill area | What participants will build |
|---|---|
Python fundamentals | Reusable embedded automation scripts |
Hardware communication | Serial communication and sensor interfaces |
CAN bus | CAN transmitter, receiver, logger and decoder |
UDS diagnostics | Diagnostic request/response scripts and test cases |
Software testing | Automated test suites using |
CANoe | Network simulation and automated test execution |
Final project | Integrated embedded communication and testing framework |
Recommended Python libraries and tools
Python 3
Core programming, automation, scripting and data processing.
pytest
Test automation, fixtures, assertions and regression suites.
python-can
CAN message transmission, reception, logging and simulation.
PySerial and python-can-isotp
Serial communication and ISO-TP transport for diagnostics over CAN.
Vector CANoe
Automotive network simulation, diagnostics and test automation; access depends on licensed software and supported interfaces.
Final capstone project
Python-Based ECU Communication and Automated Testing Framework
Participants will develop a project that combines:
CAN message transmission, reception and logging.
ECU simulation using a virtual CAN bus or a suitable test setup.
UDS diagnostic request and response handling.
Automated functional and negative test cases.
Test result summaries and report generation.
Optional integration with CANoe and a physical ECU.
Hardware and CANoe activities can use simulations when physical devices or licenses are unavailable. Diagnostic tests should be conducted on authorized test systems.
